"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
Matthew 11:29-30
What is this yoke that Jesus speaks about in this passage? One application is the responsibilities that God has for each one of us. Rest does not come from running away from our God-given responsibilities. Rest comes from rejecting responsibilities that God does not intend for us and accepting God's yoke for us. The yoke that Jesus gives us is easier and lighter than any yoke we might choose for ourselves. When we take up the yoke of Jesus we find rest for our souls. So what prevents us from taking up the yoke that Jesus offers?
One obstacle is our insistence on doing things our own way. We place such a strong emphasis on personal autonomy that our freedom gets in the way of our peace. We struggle and fight against God's yoke when the path to peace lies in submission to Him. What responsibilities has God given to you? Are you submitted to them? Do not shirk God's yoke. Take it joyfully and find rest.

God has been very good to us. We have a tendency to focus on the negative and notice all the things that we lack rather than to see all the gifts that God has given us.
When we experience the vanity that is life without God, do we return to the God who loves us?
Rest comes from rejecting responsibilities that God does not intend for us and accepting God's yoke for us.
The answer to America's social ills is God's grace and Christian love.
